Aspartame is not safe This month’s question: “Please talk about aspartame and give me some clarity.” A sweet subject for everyone. The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) following the guidelines of our FDA recently backed the safety of aspartame. It is unfortunate that few people read the article in total. The rats used in the study did develop tumors; however, the panel suggested that those rats had respiratory problems, which may have caused the tumors. The panel also discussed that it was mostly the female rats that experienced the tumors. Does this give you comfort? The European Ramazzini Foundation is a non-profit, private institute with official government recognition. It is located in Italy with over 10,000 square meters of laboratories and Epidemiological Research Center. The ERF has been working in environmental health science for over 25 years, specializing in oncology and toxicology. Their study results demonstrated that aspartame, when administered to rats for the entire lifespan, induces an increase of lymphomas and leukemia in female rats. The proceedings of these studies were to be published in the Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences. Why must the governments do their own studies if there are profound and competent studies already in place? There are over ninety adverse reactions and side effects from Aspartame reported and being studied. These side effects include: decreased vision, decreased tears, decreased night vision, tinnitus, seizures, headaches, migraines, memory loss, drowsiness, tremors, anxiety, insomnia, palpitations, shortness of breath, hives, hypoglycemia, PMS, ulcers, suicidal tendencies, Fibromyalgia, Lupus, Grave’s Disease, ADD, brain tumors and more. A few good nutritionists and doctors are doing their own research right here in our country. One of my favorite authors is Janet Starr Hull, author of Sweet Poison and Splenda; is it Safe or Not? She speaks from truth as she almost died of aspartame poisoning in 1991. I agree with the following from David Reitz, founder of www.Dorway.com:
One thing is for certain; each of us has a unique makeup and chemistry. Different chemicals, synthetic or natural, affect each of us differently. We owe it to ourselves to think about our genetic makeup, our known weaknesses or conditions, and to make educated choices about what we put into our bodies. We must remember that over a lifetime even small toxins can accumulate. Please, above all, protect the children. Here are some my favorite website for further investigation: Remember, our Creator did an amazing job in perfecting nature. Very few of nature’s things need our help to make them better. These are my personal opinions, shared research and observations. I truly wish you only wellness. — Joan © 2009 Joan Goodman
