What can I do to combat fatigue? What can I do to combat fatigue? I crash every afternoon and struggle to get up in the morning. Chronic Fatigue and Adrenal Fatigue are everywhere and with everyone nowadays. Even children are suffering these symptoms. Our lifestyle and stress levels are far surpassing our body’s ability to cope. Most of us just “keep going” until that dreaded day when we “hit the wall” and cannot recover fully without help. Here are some suggestions: · Stop pushing yourself to the point of exhaustion and try to pace yourself and your life. We only get one chance to live life to the fullest. Now each of you must decide what the “fullest” means to you. · Stop skipping meals. Learn to have some relief foods like protein bars or nuts stuck away in that desk drawer. Try to eat a small amount every couple hours. Your body needs fuel or your will burn your own body up – this is called catabolism. A very dangerous condition, Catabolism means the body is seeking out proteins from your internal organs – the heart is the easiest muscle for your body to catabolize. Not a pretty picture when you think about it. · QUIT eating junk foods! You are what you eat. This includes sugar and caffeine. Yes, even those lovely little latte’s should be avoided because they give you a false sense of energy. This puts even more strain on the adrenal glands. Stop the caffeine, sodas, and alcohol also! These are like drugs to your body. You may even be addicted to these little nasties. And please avoid those gigantic super-sized meals – your body is just overwhelmed by mass amounts of food being thrown into it. Huge meals are not healthy! · Eat balanced and nutritious foods. Eat real, whole and fresh foods. Drink spring water and herbal teas. · Eat a protein and fat with every carbohydrate. Carbs are like gasoline being thrown on your energy fire. After the carbs are gone – you must have a log on the fire (protein) to actually have a long burning fuel fire. If you do not have anything to burn after the carbs – you will begin to experience insulin drops, hypoglycemia or insulin resistance. The body will crash without proper fuel. · Put some joy back into your life. I mean real JOY. Laugh, Love, Play – remember those things? Find those things you really love and embrace them. Don’t feel guilty about taking time to live your life to the fullest. · Try to get to bed early – 10 pm is great. Each hour you sleep before midnight is worth two hours after midnight to your body’s healing processes. · Avoid excessively strenuous exercise. Mild workouts are easier for your body and do not further deplete your glandular system. Don’t laugh – I know you feel “great” when you exercise aggressively – but those adrenals will burn out and will do better with gentle stretching, walking, and recuperative exercise. You only get one body – take care of yourself and do not feel guilty for nurturing yourself. Many of you are setting examples for your children. I am seeing many children between 8 and 12 who are soon to be classified by allopathic medicine as “Chronic Fatigue” children. If you cannot slow down for yourself – please slow down for the children! We need to set good examples; not to be lazy, but to be great caretakers of our precious bodies!
