Is a global pandemic a possibility – such as bird flu?

The World Health Organization (WHO) has already sent a “pandemic alert” to all governments worldwide.  National Geographic News says this “A global influenza pandemic, like the “Spanish Flu” of 1918 could leave tens of millions dead. Many experts insist that the world is unprepared and overdue for just such a catastrophe.  The U.S. has said it will stock pile vaccines, but according to the CDC website, a successful vaccine has not been found at this point.

Tamiflu is touted as the drug of choice. Tamiflu, however, has not proven to be effective with many cases of influenza and has warnings from the Japanese health ministry since June 2004 concerning the psychological and neurological disorders linked with the medication. Tamiflu is also not for use by children under 12 years of age.

Regardless of the media, we should all prepare for the possibility by being healthy.  Each of us should consider improving our immune system and educating ourselves with information that is truthful and logical.  Now – first and foremost let me remind you that the FDA will not allow words like “anti-viral” or “antibiotic” to be used with any natural supplement.  So, if I wanted personally to improve my immune system or be prepared for the possibility of global illness, flu or the like, here is what I have chosen:

  • Olive Leaf Extract taken daily greatly supports the immune system
  • Oregano Oil taken at the onset of colds or flu support the bronchial and lungs.
It also aids in digestion and supports a healthy colon – keeps many people very regular.
  • Garlic taken daily in foods or as a supplement greatly supports the entire body.
  • Elderberry extract – delicious and very healthful for all ages. The British Medical Research Institute associated with the Queen Mary College, University of London announces that Sambucol (Elderberry – Sambucus nigra) was at least 99% effective against the avian fly virus.

Israeli world-renown virologist Dr. Madeline Mumcuoglu stated regarding Elderberry extract, "To my knowledge, it's the only product that can cut the flu in half, before complications have a chance of setting in. If we do have a cure for chicken flu, this is a really positive thing for Israel." She has studied the key ingredient in Elderberry and done testing against the flu virus, finding it effective.  Her research continues with all very positive findings.  She has commercialized the elderberry into supplement form and has founded Razei Bar Industries where Sambucol Black Elderberry Extract is produced.  (Also, it is interesting to note that Elderberry wine was traditionally used for influenza and the ill effects of the chills, and the juice of the black elderberry has historically been an invaluable remedy. The elder has often been called the "medicine chest" of the country people.)  More information is available at www.shalomdc.org and these articles make very interesting reading.
