How do I prepare for the cold and flu winter season?

As the winter months arrive, it is important to keep your arsenal stocked – so at that first sign of sniffles or cough you are ready to act.  Let me introduce you to a Natural Medicine Chest:

  • Colloidal Silver 500 ppm is safe for adults, children and animals, this is great
for all infections, colds and flu.  It is used like a natural antibiotic.

  • Olive Leaf Extract comes in extract, capsules, and concentrates.
Safe for everyone if you follow the directions on your product.

  • Oregano capsules are great for maintaining good lung health and will detox the body of most all cold symptoms.  Best when taken with food if you are using high doses as this one can upset the stomach because it is strong.

  • Elderberry comes in several forms, the most highly recognized being the
Sambucol formula.  This is an excellent anti-viral product with years of research
and clinical trials done in Israel.  It is pleasant tasting and can be given to the elderly
or children when the product directions are followed.  This one can be used as a preventative if your child is prone to illness during the winter season.

  • Grapefruit Seed Complex or extract is a wonderful anti-microbial that can be used internally or externally when the directions are followed. Always dilute!!

  • Bach Rescue Remedy should always be on your shelf for those times when you need to regain you calm or when your child needs calming.  Great for under stress times or during shock or serious illness.  This product works fast and helps to stabilize the emotions.  Works great on animals also – just a few drops in their drinking water or on their belly.

  • Peppermint Oil  Use one drop on the tongue (hang on to your hat the first time you try it) or added to gentlemen’s tea (hot water with a splash of milk) will clear your sinus passages, still a cough, help release a headache, calm the stomach, and provide great breath.
Caution – not for children under 6 years old.  A great way to slow a virus from being
inhaled – I love to use it on airplane trips.

  • Echinacea or Goldenseal are both  are excellent in the lessening of colds and virus and these come in many great combination formulas.

  • Vicks Vapor Rub or some such product that can be rubbed on the bottoms of your feet to protect and open up the lungs and bronchial. Apply socks immediately after so the oils can be absorbed into the feet, not spread across the carpet.

Make sure you have an ice cap and a heating pad of one type or another (I always caution against using electric heating pads because you can get burned).  Rest and warmth are very important if any of the winter bugs bite you.  Have a good comfortable blanket that is washable after you feel better and an old pair of warm socks, because the feet are one of the main body parts that must be kept warm. Keep your foods light and easy to digest, so this means always having some healthy soups and broths in the pantry. Let your body burn out the invaders by letting the temperature go up and promote a sweat (do not be afraid of body temperatures up to 103 degrees).  Use your aspirin to bring down temperatures if they go over 103 to 103.5.

As with all products and for your safety – please follow the label of each product for detailed instructions.  These are my opinions and findings over the years – but best of all – KEEP WELL!
